China Electric Power Equipment and Technology Co., Ltd. (CET) is a wholly owned subsidiary of State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) as well as the operation platform and implementer of SGCC in carrying out international EPC business. The core business of CET includes power EPC, integration and supply of power equipment, power grid scheduling, operation and maintenance, support in project planning, design, consulting, investment and financing. CET undertakes EPC projects including domestic and foreign transnational and trans-regional grid UHV power transmission and transformation, flexible DC power transmission, smart grid, power system automation and all voltage grade power transmission and distribution as well as supporting complete sets of equipment, power grid scheduling, operation and maintenance, and other services. CET also provides a package solution from project planning, survey, design, finance, procurement, construction and operation.

CET has carried out business operation with more than 40 countries in Asia, Africa, South America, the Middle East, Europe and other regions. The business model covers concessionary loan, Buyer’s credit, Seller’s credit, EPC, and so on. It has implemented more than 200 projects cumulatively in design, construction, supply, and technical service.

In 2015, the amount of CET’s newly signed contract for international business reached 21 billion yuan. CET had been listed as one of ENR 250 largest contracting firms in terms of the overseas project operating income in the world, and ranked 9th in the top 100 enterprises of foreign project contracting businesses in China. CET is one of AAA grade credit enterprises of China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products and China International Contractors Association, and a large export-oriented enterprise supported by China Export & Credit Insurance Corporation.

GDHA 500 kV Power Transmission and Transformation Project in Ethiopia constructed and completed by CET is the largest scale of power transmission project in Africa and the one with the highest voltage grade in East Africa. The Supporting Power Transmission and Transformation Project for Urban Light Rail in Ethiopia is the first light rail power transmission project in Africa. The time limit from design, equipment, transportation, installation, commissioning to trial operation was only 6 months. The Ethiopian Government spoke highly of project construction and quality. The Upgrade Project of EETC 500 kV National Backbone Grid in Egypt is the first project implemented under the framework of production capacity cooperation between China and Egypt, and the project contract was entered into under the witness of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Egyptian President Cecilia. Belo Monte II±800 kV UHV DC Transmission Project, is the first UHV power transmission project in EPC mode independently implemented overseas by a Chinese enterprise. This marks the GO OUT policy of China’s UHV technology, equipment and EPC had made a significant breakthrough. Van 600MW Converter Station Project in Turkey is an interconnection project of Turkish power grid and Iranian power grid and is the first DC project in Turkey. Ethiopia-Kenya ±500 kV DC Power Transmission and Transformation Project is the first transnational DC interconnection project in the East Africa. Matiari-Lahore DC Power Transmission and Transformation Project in Pakistan is the only one under the energy cooperation of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

With the core business of construction and operation of power grid, SGCC is the largest utility company in the world. SGCC’s operating area covers more than 88% of land area of China (including 26 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities) that it supplies power to more than 1.1 billion people. SGCC is a super large state-owned key enterprise relating to national economic lifeline and national energy security, and undertakes the basic mission of ensuring a safer, more economical, cleaner, and sustainable power supply.

SGCC is the vice chairman unit of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and was rated respectively as A+, AA-, and Aa3 by Fitch, Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s. SGCC has invested and operated national transmission power grids in Belgium, Italy, the Philippines, Brazil, Portugal, Australia, Singapore, and other countries. The scale of overseas power assets reaches US $40 billion. It had also established smart grid institutes in North America and Europe. SGCC was ranked 7th in Fortune Global 500 in 2015 (by May 31, 2016).

In 2015, the electricity sales amount in the operating area of SGCC was more than 3.45×1012 kWh, the annual operating income reached 2.075×1012 yuan, and the total asset amount was 3.15×1012 yuan. The reliability rate of urban power supply was 99.957%, that of rural power supply was 99.852%, the line loss ratio was 6.78%, the length of power transmission line was 889,900 km, the capacity of power transformation equipment was 36.12×108 kVA, and there was not any large-area blackout successively in the past 30 years.
